Refinishing is a hire-the-pro project. DIY is great for many things, but it is virtually impossible to do a decent bathtub refinishing job by yourself. Porcelain, fiberglass, and cast-iron tubs can all be refinished, most refinishing is done on-site. Refinishing technicians are highly aware of the fact that they are in a private residence, so they take precautions to minimize overspray and other mess. After masking and dropcloths are set up, the tub is repaired (nicks and holes filled), primed, sealed, and painted with a highly durable, glossy top-coat of any color you choose.

Surprised that it is paint? Its better call the substance a "coating," rather than paint. Look at it however you want, but rid your mind of the idea that bathtub refinishing is a duplication of the tub's original dip-coat. In some cases, you can send a valuable cast iron tub off-site for a new dip-coat--but this is not what we refer to as bathtub refinishing.

Reglazing

Reglazing or refinishing starts with a thorough cleaning of the tub surface using especially formulated two-step cleaners to remove soap scum, mineral deposits, and body oils. Next, all cracks, chips, and cracks are repaired. Finally, a trained professional uses a fine-finish spray process to apply a hi-tech, durable acrylic coating.

The end result of bathtub reglazing is bathtub surface that looks wet, has high light refraction and has a deep gloss. Miracle Method achieves this fine finish with an extra buff and polish process, which leaves the surface silky smooth and the feel of original porcelain. With replacement, the biggest problem is likely to come when you take out the old tub. Parts of the bathroom tile and walls are torn away. The old plumbing is in the wrong place to fit the new tub. Plastic tub and wall liners can cost the same and is not near the same quality of what you already have. Both are very expensive to install and can cost anywhere from two to four thousand dollars

Re-glazing /Refinishing is just a fraction of the cost.

On-site

All of the re-glazing is done in place without removing even a single piece of tile. You can save the fuss and dust of major renovation as well as several hundred dollars.
